Eva Cockcroft’s article ‘Abstract Expressionism, weapon of the Cold War’ as published in ‘Pollock and After: The Critical Debate’. First published in art magazine Artforum in 1974. In the article, Cockcroft is referring to Abstract Expressionism and how it was used by the American government, CIA and MOMA as one of the methods of propaganda already from WWII and especially during the Cold War Era in order to ‘influence the foreign intellectual community and to present a strong propaganda image of the United States as a free society as opposed to the regimented communist bloc.’
