At the recollections of Gerson Moura’s 20th decease year, the Brazilian society welcomes the results of his brilliant doctoral thesis in an important moment of challenges derived from globalization. It is an essential text in the comprehension of the Brazilian history, during the tough years of World War II and its aftermath; thus, the work enables readers to understand that the decisions of international policy can be made in accordance with human value. Gerson Moura is one of the main references when it comes to Brazilian Foreign Policy and, especially, regarding one of the most traditional bilateral relations of Brazil: the United States. Some expressions coined by Moura in his work, like ‘autonomy by dependence’ or ‘negotiated alignment’, are part of the discipline’s conceptual framework, as if they were intrinsic to it. For translating Brazilian foreign relations in an enriching way, and explaining to students and researchers diversified foreign policy strategies adopted during several governments, Moura is so recognized and acclaimed. In the 20th anniversary of his untimely death, the Alexandre de Gusmo Foundation releases, in Portuguese, his doctoral thesis, presented in 1982 in the UK: ‘Brazilian foreign relations: 1939-1650 : the changing nature of Brazil-United States relations during and after the Second World War’.
