The Essence of Nectar is a compendium of the extensive teachings which are presented in such texts as the Lam Rim Chen Mo of Je Tsong Ka Pa. It sets forth the complete path to Buddhahood in stages to be practiced in sequence by one who wishes to follow this path. The lineage of these teachings originated with Buddha Shakyamuni and was passed down through an unbroken succession of Indian masters to the great pandit Atisha who, after coming to

Tibet, composed the Bodhipathapradipam which has served as the prototype for all subsequent Lam Ri1n texts. From Atisha, the lineage was passed down through an unbroken succession of Tibetan masters to Je Tsongkhapa and has continued unbroken to the present.

The Essence of Nectar was con1posed by a holder of chis lineage, an incarnation of Thegchen Tulku named Yeshe Tsondru of Sera Me College, Kong Po house (Ser-smad kong-po theg-chen sprul-sku ye-shes brtson ‘grus).
