This book analyses the social and political contexts of scriptural translation and missionary linguistics by the U.S.-based international organization SIL. Of particular interest in this study are the ways in which philosophical, religious, linguistic, and sociopolitical systems of knowledge and ideas are integrated into scriptural translation and imposed upon cultures through the transnational enterprise of missionary linguistics.
